布朗大学的第一堂课

女儿开始了布朗大学的学习，让女儿和我都十分震惊的是他们所有新生在到校后的第1个作业居然是让新来的布朗本科生们阅读，反思，并讨论布朗大学的“黑暗”历史。入学的第一件事情居然是自揭老底！我这才知道原来布朗大学的建校资金不少是来自于黑人奴隶交易。
' ^; d, F) V7 _% Q) `6 ^这也让我想到了在华盛顿DC他们的一个黑人历史博物馆。虽然美国的历史上做过很多的恶，但是他们对自己的历史的态度还是十分令人赞叹的。2006 Report of the Steering Committee。
* T# }' |7 K8 y0 d1 C# F这第一个作业让我对布朗大学的好感油然而生。也让我多少理解了布朗迷之自信：

这是女儿分享的反思：“......but I think confronting our history is the necessary first step: unless we learn from our mistakes, we're always at risk of repeating them. Having learned about the cost of our undergraduate education, I also feel like we need to try more consciously to use it for good, something that will definitely impact the classes I take and the concentrations I consider.”
2 H* P& M  G' ~8 f布朗的学费是很贵，但是当我看到这第一堂课后女儿的反思，我觉得也许这挺值的。女儿的成长，马上就开始了。
